Top Ten Tuesdays: Characters I Would Crush On

In conjuction with The Broke and the Bookish, we at MPL are going to try this whole "Top Ten Tuesdays" thing, wherein we list our top ten on their chosen topic.

To kick it off, this week is "Top Ten Characters I Would Crush On If I Were Also A Fictional Character." (And let's be honest, these crushes exist despite the fact that they are fictional)

My list (in no particular order) is as follows:

  1. Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. Mr. Darcy is aloof, kind of a jerk, and very introspective. He seems to be the type who lets everything build up inside him and assumes everyone else knows what he is thinking. Not the best guy, really, but he is a romantic who gives Elizabeth that amazing speech about how he "ardently loves" her. Swoon.
  2. Marcus Flutie from the Jessica Darling Series. Again, not the best guy around, but he really redeems himself. He is romantic and determined, but he also sits back and lets Jessica realize things herself. Not too pushy, but at times, he has some great moments and speeches. Plus, he openly loves Barry Manilow. I give him mad props for that.
  3. Harry Dresden from Jim Butcher's Dresden Files Series. This Harry is my favorite wizard ever. Not that other one. This Harry is sarcastic, brave, and bull-headed. He is reliable, funny, and really cares about all people. Plus, in my head he is tall, dark, and handsome (which I think he is described as such in the book). If Harry were real, I would so want to know him.
  4. Owen Armstrong from Just Listen by Sarah Dessen. This is one of my YA crushes. If Owen had gone to my high school, this quiet, big guy who always had an iPod with him would have been my own crush. He has anger management issues, but they are kind of adorable, in that it is in defense of others. He's kind of like Batman, in high school and with a tween sister. He knows just how to interact with the scared and damaged Annabel Greene, and he is basically great.
  5. Wesley from The Princess Bride. I feel like this should be on everyone's list. Wesley is the shy farmhand who mysteriously disappears, only to reappear better than ever, very much alive, and determined to get his lady back. He has a wry sense of humor while doing all of it. I admit that I have seen the movie more times than I have read the book, but the character stands the same in both. Pure awesome.
  6. Prince Charmont from Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine. Oh, Char is the best Prince Charming ever. Despite his role, he is connected with the people, he likes sliding down stair-rails, and he declares his love for Ella in one amazingly romantic letter. He accepts her as she is (clumsy and not quite refined) and is adorable while doing so. Plus, he chases ogres.
  7. Augustus Waters from The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. This is the most recent addition to this list. Augustus Waters is possibly the best teen boyfriend ever. He talks and thinks fast (as do I) and he plans these amazingly awful dates wherein he is essentially a performer. What is great about him is his wit and genius. I love that boy something fierce.
  8. Davy Dempsey from Faking It by Jennifer Crusie. Davy is a bad boy, and probably my only traditional "chick-lit" crush on this list. He is a con man who is also good-hearted, sarcastic, and quite determined to get with Tilda. I just plain enjoy him.
  9. Rob Fleming from High Fidelity by Nick Hornby (in the movie version he was Rob Gordon). Rob is sad, lonely, and nostalgic. He spends the whole book recounting past loves and where he went wrong. He is adorably clueless, which I appreciate, and he is honestly good-hearted. Plus, I liked the movie adaptation with John Cusack.
  10. Noah from The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks (and of course it has nothing to do with Ryan Gosling playing this role in the movie). Noah is the endless love of Allie, and he waits for her into old age. They have one of the best courtships and happily ever afters. It's pretty much on every girl's list.

What about you? Who's your book crush?

Tune in for our next Top Ten list. We'll try to do this at least once a month!
