Top Ten Tuesdays: Top Ten Book Covers

Another Tuesday, another Top Ten Tuesdays post! This week, we are judging books entirely by their covers. We know you do it too!

In no particular order, here are my favorites:

Soulless by Gail Carriger. I love this one because it truly captures the character and the grey background really gives a fell of foggy London streets.

A skeleton smoking. Book is hilarious, too.

Deathnote by Tsugumi Ohba. the placements of the characters
on the cover gives clues to the dynamic between them. I love the crazy way
the title goes across the cover.

Hater by David MoodyFinger painting with blood. A very eye-catching cover.

Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher. I love the sickly green on this cover. The street depicted behind Harry has a real feel of abandonment. Also it’s an interesting
pose like he’s just heard a noise behind him and is turning to look.

Nightlife by Rob Thurman. So this cover is done by the same artist who does the Dresden covers. I picked it up for that reason then it turned out to be a great book.

Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. I don’t know why, but I love this one.

The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff. It’s really creepy. Sharp metal objects hanging over a baby carriage. The smokey background reminds
me of the "Silent Hill" video games.

The Snowman by Jo Nesbo. I like the way this cover reminds me of a kidnapper’s ransom note without being cut out letters. And the small blood stain is a
great clue to the kind of mystery you are going to get.

Slice of Cherry by Dia ReevesI haven’t read this one yet, but I will, based solely on the cover.  Bloody Tea cups. Hopefully it is not about English vampires.

And now some bonuses:

What about you? Do you have a favorite book cover? Does it influence what you read?

  1. That's my favourite Parasol Protectorate cover, because it's the only one that shows her nose being larger than considered attractive in an English lady. I wonder what they would have had to say about mine, lol. I also love how confidently she has her shoulders set back, she's on a mission as always :)

  2. The Anne Perry books have great covers. You need to study them to see all the details. I also enjoy the Tea Shop mystery covers--tea, scones and hints.

  3. That cover for The Hater is pretty powerful! I'm digging the bloody fingerpainting. I have to say that I preferred the older UK cover editions of the Dresden Files and was sad that they switched them to be similar to the US ones. :( Oh well.

  4. I absolutely adore the cover of Soulless, but I haven't read it yet so it couldn't go on my list!

  5. It, by Stephen King
    Rosemary's Baby, by Ira Levin

I have to say, I don't look at the covers all that much, but the titles always grab me.
