Top Ten Tuesday: Books We Would Love to see as Movies or TV Shows (in a perfect world in which they did not butcher the books we love)

Happy Top Ten Tuesday! Today's topic: Books we would love to see as movies or tv shows in a perfect world in which they did not butcher the books.

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme started on the Broke and the Bookish
blog. They set the topic, we make the lists. Visit their site to see more on this topic!

I would totally watch these:

Dresden Files by Jim Butcher: I know they tried to do this one already. While they did an okay job with Harry and Bob the Skull they ruined the rest of it. They may start over and redeem themselves.

Ashfall by Mike Mullin: we need more intelligent volcano movies.

Rot and Ruin by Jonathan Maberry: because we need more zombie movies where the real danger is the people you meet not the zombies that want to eat you.

The Gods of Gotham by Lyndsay Faye: Historical mystery about the formation of city police and the many types of religion in New York City and the ignorance and prejudice directed towards people from people of different variations of Christianity.

Little Brother by Cory Doctorow: Why yes! Homeland security and big government are the villain in this book.

Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson: A book about ordinary people killing superheroes who have gone corrupt.

Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld: More steampunk please.

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline: They could do a really fun visual with this one like the original Wizard of Oz movie where the real world is all sepia tones and the virtual world is all brightly colored. As so much of the book is explaining virtual objects and protocol and backtracking the “history” of the world, it would be hard to do.

Sandman by Neil Gaiman: (storyboards already done.) I love how Dreams, the main character, shifts facial features. He rarely looks the same in a page of panels.

Maus by Art Spiegelman: The world could always use a great holocaust story… with Mice!

Bonus number 11: As a staff we would like to see a remake of Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine because the book is not like that at all. The book is wonderful and should be read by everyone and the movie watched by no one. (This is not a commentary on the actors in anyway. They are lovely in other things.)

What book would you love to see transformed into a movie or show?

  1. Ashfall would be totally awesome! :) And Steelheart would fill the gap left in me by Smallville, which hasn't been filled by that bad show 'Arrow.' Just no. Great list!

  2. Oh yes, a second try with Dresden Files would be awesome! I liked Harry and Bob in it, too, although of course Bob was much changed. I never quite got why they switched Susan to a blonde and Murphy to Latino...

I agree with Sandman and Rot & Ruin as well. I have Little Brother on my shelf but haven't read it yet.
