Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Character Names

Today's Top Ten Tuesday covers our favorite character names, and there are some good ones. It is especially pleasing when a name is descriptive of the character.

Bilbo Baggins.  If this one isn’t at the top of your list, tell it to Leonard Nimoy:

 

 

Gandalf is also pretty great.

Hannibal Lector. His name rhymes with what he is! It’s so perfect it’s creepy. Or maybe he’s just creepy period.

Rhett Butler. Sigh...he’s just so dreamy. 
Sherlock Holmes. The name evokes so many images it’s hard to imagine literature without him. 

Moby Dick. Ishmael. Captain Ahab.  For Melville’s self-proclaimed magnum opus, he didn’t pull any punches with the characters’ names

Ebenezer Scrooge. His name began a new lexicon for our language. What have you done recently?

James Bond. I guess it would be more appropriate to write Bond. James Bond.

The Winnie the Pooh cast.  Eeyore, Piglet, Tigger. I know I’m bending the rules here, but could you pick just one?

Amelia Bedelia. Her habit of taking figures of speech literally yields comical results. Plus her name is Amelia Bedelia. 

Dogberry. For my nod to Shakespeare, I chose one of the funniest, in my opinion. P.S. Did you see Joss Whedon’s version of Much Ado about Nothing?  Super fun. “and, masters, do not forget to specify, when time and place shall serve, that I am an ass.”
