A story about love and loss. What more do you want?

A Wedding in December by Anita Shreve

I really enjoyed A Wedding in December by Anita Shreve. I think I picked it because I was married in December, and I must say I enjoyed this book more than Amanda’s Wedding, which I picked for similar reasons. The story takes place in a scenic New England bed and breakfast, where seven high school friends reunite after twenty years to celebrate their friends’ wedding. There is a story within a story as one of the attendant’s writes about a historical tragedy and its consequences. There is also a thread of mystery as the group remembers a friend who died tragically in high school. There is a certain depth to the book that Shreve accomplishes through her writing style. Both the characters and setting are beautifully captured, and the ending has just enough bitter sweetness to satisfy most romantics.

I want to read this.
